DEEP IN BROOKLYN, JUSTICE, GESAFFELSTEIN, AND BOB MOSES MADE NEW YEAR’S MAGIC

New Year’s eve is a unicorn: a night of expectations for revelry and intentions that few will ever fully see through. Such was the case with Jukely’s New Year’s Eve extravaganza in Brooklyn on December 31, featuring the highly-anticipated return of Justice to the United States, as well as Gesaffelstein, Bob Moses, and With You., the new trio from form Major Lazer producer Switch. Jukely’s party had everything that one wants in a big, hyped-up night—quality curation, epic warehouse vibes, pomp and circumstance—even if it could never live up to the loftiest of New Year’s Eve expectations because really, what can?

Held at the Brooklyn Hangar, far south of the island of Manhattan, this was not an easy place for most to get to. (As some techno fans knew, the Brooklyn Hangar has been the backup venue for Time Warp for the last two years.) Despite its location, the vibe is entirely worth the trek. As a warehouse on the water in an industrial complex, it turned out to be the ideal spot to see France’s finest electro export (after Daft Punk) play a set of old school bangers.

Aside from the sheer scale of the venue, the absence of bottle service or multiple lists at the door was noticed and appreciated. This was just a gang of kids who wanted to watch amazing music. The Hangar was full all night, perhaps pushing the 5,000 capacity at times. Given the quantity of events going on in New York City on the last night of the year, it was impressive how many people showed up. Clearly, in 2016, America wants Justice.
